Mental Health & Law Enforcement

Attendees will hear from Mental Health Clinicians about the intersections of mental health and the criminal justice system and will be able to:

• Identify elements of mental illness including personality, psychotic, and substance use disorders and intellectual/developmental disabilities.
• Understand the relationship between unmanaged mental illness and/or resource deficiencies and increased recidivism within the medical and criminal justice systems.
• Practice skills for interacting with people presenting with symptoms of mental health issues.
• Define trauma.
• Explain specificities of trauma as it relates to emergency responders.
